The idea of the grim reaper aka the angel of death has been around for centuries. It is thought that death was given some personification or character to illustrate the concept of death through oral stories and written literature. It was thought to acquire it's skeletal appearance in 15th century literature. It was described as a skeleton like figure that may or may not be dressed in a long black robe with hood. It was also described to carry a scythe.

The influence of the grim reaper has also varied in literature. For instance, some described the reaper as a guide to help dead people to the afterlife whilst other describe the grim reaper as the thing that kills the person.

In the latter case, the person may have his/her wits about them and escape or cheat death. This opens up all sorts of stories that we even see in modern horror films like the Final Destination franchise of movies. The protagonists manage to escape death through chance but it has to square the ledger and pursues them one by one until the end.

It is also seen in off beat and comedic tales like Bill and Ted's Bogus Adventure, where the eponymous duo play Twister and Battleships with Death (the grim reaper) to save their lives (and they win..many times...the grim reaper needs to work on his flexibility).

This Grim Reaper Creature Reacher Costume is true to the nature of the character. You receive a long foot length, black robe. You also receive over sized hands and arms and a suitably grotesque Grim reaper mask.

In fact it is a very simple costume but it works because the mask is so well detailed. The mask fits over the head and shoulders. It has the look of a wizened old skull with a menacing look in the eye holes and forehead. The pared back teeth against the jaw give the skull a death grimace, which is disturbing and  eery to see. As part of the latex mask is a black hood. I wonder if it would have been better to have the hood as part of the robe to make it look more realistic but in the end, it is only a fun costume even if it is a bit scary.

The final part of the costume is the bony, oversized hands. These fit onto your own hands and extend out of the wrist length robe. You can place a hand on the unsuspecting shoulder of some poor soul at a party and pretend that you have come a calling for them. Sure to create a laugh and a bit a consternation in equal measure. Get a prop scythe if you really want to look the part of the grim reaper.
